Doctor in the House

Doctor in the House

In this new reality TV programme, a doctor stayed with a family, assessing and helping them to improve their health. In many ways he was just doing what alternative therapists have been doing for years but somehow doctors are always taken more seriously, and he did have the advantage of being able to run lots of tests and take people off medication.

In each case the doctor majored on changing people’s diets and was obviously a convert to gluten-, dairy- and sugar-free regimes. One gentleman was able to come off most of his diabetic medication and his blood sugar levels remained stable whereas before, even on medication, they were far too high. He created major life changing effects with every family and had a lovely manner and way of dealing with their problems. I wasn’t too happy about him leaving people on high protein, low carb diets though. It certainly worked to lower blood sugar and weight but I don’t feel that it is a long term solution to health as it creates too much acid waste which stresses the kidneys. High meat consumption has also been linked to cancer.

He used alternative practitioners such as an acupuncturist and kinesiologist which was very affirming. It was so good to see a programme such as this where doctors are being shown to value what was once termed alternative. This complementary approach is I am sure the way forward in medicine.
